A team of U.S. lawyers is preparing to launch a civil action against the Republic of Turkey for the 2017 brawl in Washington in which Turkish protesters and secret service officers beat and severely injured rival protesters during a visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The lawsuit, which is being prepared by a team with extensive experience in prosecuting foreign states, aims to demand hundreds of millions of dollars in damages from the Turkish Republic.

Protesters gathered in Washington, DC on May 16 2017 to demonstrate against the Turkish president during his first meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, but soon found themselves confronted by hostile pro-Erdoğan groups.
